That Old Cliche …

We’re sure you’ve heard it a million times before when artists and designers say what inspires them. Yes you guessed it … Nature. We are of course, no different. It seems such a cliche to say we are inspired by the world around us . But it couldn’t be more true. Our name ‘The Paper Roses’ evolved from us unconsciously drawing roses in almost every papercut, but our love of roses developed long before we started papercutting. Since we were young we have always had roses in our garden. We photographed them, we drew from them, and created work inspired by them.

All of that said, so many other factors influence our work. The majority of our pieces have been designed for a specific person, so the biggest inspiration is the people we are creating them for. What do they like? What are their hobbies? Where do they like to travel? Who are the important people in their lives? What makes them who they are?

Our new collection that we are working on (more on that soon!) takes more inspiration from current issues, the nature of humans, yet still draws from the world around us, as we see it.
